Summer brings sunshine, outdoor gigs, and festivals—but also heat and humidity that can damage your guitar if you're not careful. Here are some essential tips to protect your instrument during the warmer months.

1. Avoid Excess Heat
Never leave your guitar in a hot car or direct sunlight. High temperatures can warp wood, melt glue joints, and crack or bubble finishes—especially on vintage or nitrocellulose-coated instruments.

2. Manage Humidity
Humidity levels above 60% can cause the wood to swell, resulting in high action, poor playability, or lifted bridges on acoustics. Use a case dehumidifier or store your guitar in a climate-controlled room.

3. Wipe It Down After Playing
Sweat and moisture from your hands can corrode strings, tarnish hardware, and dull finishes. Always wipe down your guitar with a microfiber cloth after use, especially during humid or sweaty gigs.

4. Use the Right Case
A hard case provides better insulation from temperature changes than a gig bag. If you're transporting your guitar, especially to outdoor events, a quality case is your best defense.

5. Watch for Setup Shifts
Changes in temperature and humidity can affect neck relief, string height, and intonation. If your guitar starts feeling off, a minor truss rod or saddle adjustment may be needed.
