Like driving a new car, you need to go in and adjust the seat, the mirrors, the temp, and of course the audio volume to make it feel like your own. Driving around with someone else's seat settings will make for an uncomfortable ride. The same is true when playing a guitar with someone else's settings. The Factory will send the guitar out with a basic setup that allows the guitar to be played, or test driven. In most cases, new guitar should be taken to a proper tech to have it setup first, prior to spending any significant time playing it.

Here are the Top 5 steps to complete on your new guitar:

  1. Adjust action to your preferred string height via neck and saddle adjustments

  2. Verify nut slots and adjust if necessary

  3. Oil fretboard & and install new strings

  4. Frets cleaned and sharp edges filed

  5. Set intonation

This is only scratching the surface. There are many other variables that can be considered when setting up the your instrument.
